H20 Xtream is a key facility for the Upper Hutt community, attracting thousands of children, families and recreational swimmers each year to enjoy the wave pools, hydroslides and lane pools. Upper Hutt City Council engaged Maycroft to undertake essential maintenance to the pool complex in July 2018.

Our work included general maintenance, such as new sealants, new decorative paint, minor reconfigurations and upgrades to changing rooms. The most critical aspect of the works was the application of protective coatings to the building structure. This necessitated stripping the steel back to bare and recoating. We used a combination of ultra high pressure water blasting and sand blasting to remove the paint and chlorides from the structural steel, before recoating.

The works had to be undertaken to a very short eight week timeframe to comply with the client’s advertised shut-down period. We reviewed the maintenance scope and advised the client on what was feasible within the timeframe and how best to meet their budget. Items deemed to be non-essential were removed from the scope to allow for contingency on ‘risk’ repairs that might be encountered during the course of the work.
With the repair works now complete, swimmers will be able to enjoy the fun at H20 Xtream for many years to come.
