The new Bunnythorpe Community Centre provides a welcoming space for sports and social interaction for the local community of Bunnythorpe.

Maycroft worked with local subcontractors, a vital part of a community project, and Chapple Architecture to demolish the existing club room and community centre. The centre was in poor repair with an unusable room upstairs, due to substandard conditions and difficult access.

The construction of the new 168m2 Community Centre required structural steel, to ensure the usability of the building for future generations. Internally, the additions included a new kitchen, meeting room, bathroom, changing facilities, and an external storeroom.

To complete the build hard features including a crossing, kerbs, asphalt parking and concrete areas were installed. As well as soft landscaping, grassed areas, soil and planting, which provides the centre with an accessible and welcoming entry.

The striking exterior features of the building include vertical corrugated metal cladding and coloursteel box spouting and down pipes.

An interesting part of the project is it was integrated into the Palmerston North City Councils ‘Connected Community Strategy’, which was established to develop, provide, and advocate for facilities that support connectivity and inclusivity. Maycroft is thrilled to be able to provide a space to the Bunnythorpe Community that fosters participation and opportunities that support individual development, health, and wellbeing for the community.
