The curtains are being lifted on the newly restored and seismically strengthened St James Theatre.
Construction work began in April 2019. Nuanced with complexity, the project involved significant structural steel elements, creating a seismic gap between the theatre and adjoining ballet building, refurbishing heritage plaster and ceiling works, as well as other upgrades to the theatre's specialist systems, lighting, and air-conditioning systems. It has been a privilege for Maycroft to work on a project with such historical and cultural significance and we are thrilled to have the much-loved theatre reopened once again. A show of appreciation is due to Wellington City Council, Beca, Shand Shelton, key stakeholders, and the thousands of people who contributed to this significant project.
