Horowhenua College Bundle Project

June 2020

Horowhenua College has provided quality education to young men and women in the Levin area since 1940. With some of its buildings nearing the end of their serviceable life, the school’s Board of Trustees engaged Maycroft to upgrade several existing teaching spaces, create a number of new teaching spaces and demolish an older block.

Standard Ministry of Education materials were used in the new block – James Hardie sheet pannelling and Autex walls, along with bevel back weather boards. The main block has been part of the school faculty for many years and holds significant heritage and sentimental value to the school community. Maycroft worked closely with the project architect, BSM and the client to retain the heritage features of this block, repurposing the original rimu panellings and mouldings and creating new mouldings to match.read more

Asbestos was detected under the floor in the older block, preventing work in this area. This required reconsidering a range of design decisions to prevent damage to the asbestos and associated risk to staff, students and contractors.

“Thank you all so much for the way you have project managed and constructed the numerous projects around our college. We are absolutely delighted with the outcomes. Both staff and students are enjoying the learning spaces and facilities. The quality of the work that you have all contributed towards is greatly appreciated. Personally I am really thankful for the way you have gone the extra mile on numerous occasions to make sure the outcome is not just professionally of a really high standard but also that it fits in with the historical aspects of our college and is future proofed for years to come.”
