From coffee to construction - Andrew Buckley's new direction

February 7, 2018

With a passion for roasting coffee, Irish expat Andrew Buckley chose the right city to settle in. He’s making the most of the coffee scene in the Capital after relocating to New Zealand and joining Maycroft as Construction Coordinator. And when it comes to coffee, Andrew certainly knows what he’s talking about – he ran his own café in Ireland for five years.

But he’s traded the coffee machine for the construction site, helping build Wellington College’s new Memorial Hall and the BUPA Ferguson retirement facility by coordinating trades and drawings, undertaking QA inspections and managing defect resolution. He’s also driving Maycroft’s adoption of Procore, a software tool that helps manage the construction process.

Andrew comes to construction from an architectural background, gaining a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Technology from the University of Cork before working as an Architectural Technician for Bell Kelly Beaumont Team Architects. He’s relishing the opportunity to learn from our site teams about the steps needed for a successful build and how designs can be optimised for buildability.

Outside of work you’ll find Andrew mountain biking in Wellington’s hills, doing Thai kickboxing or eating Asian food. His best holiday ever was six months backpacking around Australia.
